Professional Bio

Jack Thorne is a writer of film, television and theatre. Jack has won five BAFTAs for his television work, and his latest credits include Help, Kiri, National Treasure, The Virtues and BBC’s adaptation of His Dark Materials. In film, his credits include Wonder, The Aeronauts and Enola Holmes. In theatre, his play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has won multiple Olivier Awards including Best New Play and multiple Tony awards including Best Play. Thorne was grateful to give the MacTaggart lecture last year and used it to advocate for the better treatment of disabled people in the TV industry. His first television show with a disabled cast was Cast Offs in 2009. Since then he's worked on the Bafta winning Don't Take My Baby and more recently Then Barbara Met Alan. In 2016 The Solid Life of Sugar Water was the first disabled centred play at the National Theatre. Jack is a proud patron of Graeae Theatre Company which champions the representation of the disabled community on stage. Jack is a founding member of the pressure group Underlying Health Condition, which seeks to address issues of accessibility in television, alongside Genevieve Barr, Katie Player and Holly Lubran.
